Rajganj, 08th September: 26-year-old Raja Haldar has been arrested for raping a minor girl. However, the prime accused Shankar Mandal is still absconding. The incident is from Haricharan Vita area of Binnaguri Gram Panchayat of Rajganj
As per the minor’s family, the main accused Shankar Mandal sexually exploited the 16-year-old minor multiple times on the pretext of marriage following which she became pregnant. Allegedly, whenever the minor brought up the topic of their marriage, Shankar Mandal used to disregard the conversation and postpone the marriage by making various excuses. The family said that when the minor was home alone, the accused brought one of his friends, Raja Haldar, to Ambari area and the duo raped the girl.
After this, a complaint was lodged on behalf of the family at the Ambari Falakata Police Station. Based on the complaint, the police arrested Raja Haldar and produced him before the Jalpaiguri court today.
Addressing the media, Ambari Outpost OC Sajal Roy said that the youth has been arrested for raping a minor. However, the other accused is absconding. The OC further stated that the matter is being investigated and efforts are on to nab the accused.
