Siliguri, 13th December: Siliguri sub-division book fair has commenced at Baghajatin Park, Siliguri from today. Minister of State for Mass Education and Library Services Siddiqullah Chowdhury inaugurated the book fair by lighting lamps in the presence of SMC administrator Goutam Deb and others. It has been learned that the book fair will continue till December 19.
Minister Siddiqullah Chowdhury said that all the libraries in the state had been shut for two years due to COVID-19. As a result, around two crore books have been destroyed by insects. Three hundred and fifty libraries have been closed due to a lack of staff. Hence, it has been decided to recruit staff in all the districts. After the pandemic, the state government has allocated Rs 2 crore rupees per district to revive libraries.
