Fulbari, 25th November: Even before the winter chill fully arrives, the waters of the Mahananda at Fulbari Barrage have begun to echo with the calls of migratory birds. Flocks of colourful winter visitors are already gathering, much to the excitement of local residents.
Every year during the winter season, various species of migratory birds arrive at this wetland, and this year is no exception. Despite temperatures in North Bengal not dropping significantly yet, the winter messengers have appeared on time.
Locals say that tourists from far and near visit the Fulbari Barrage area every winter to witness the beauty of these migratory birds. Species like the Ruddy Shelduck, River Lapwing and many others are known to take shelter here.
These birds travel thousands of kilometers from places like Mongolia, Tibet, Siberia and South Africa to spend the winter in wetlands across North Bengal before returning to their native habitats.
