Siliguri, 07th September: An atmosphere of shock and grief spread across Bagdogra after the lifeless body of a youth was found in the Pantabari area near the Masjid Para. The deceased, identified as Pawan Singh, was reportedly mentally challenged.
On Saturday morning, local residents found the body under a tree and immediately informed the Bagdogra Police Station. The police arrived at the scene and observed elephant footprints at the scene. Subsequently, the matter was informed to the forest department.
The body was recovered and sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for autopsy. Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that the youth may have been killed by an elephant attack. At present, the Bagdogra police and the forest department have launched an investigation into the incident.
