Siliguri, 25th June: The INTTUC New Jalpaiguri branch submitted a memorandum to the DRM of Katihar Division of North East Frontier Railway on Tuesday, outlining various demands, including the rehabilitation of hawkers affected by ongoing upgrades at New Jalpaiguri station. The station is being developed to international standards, resulting in the construction of a temporary parking lot and the subsequent displacement of many hawkers.
Led by INTTUC New Jalpaiguri branch president Sujay Sarkar, a rally was organized from the station, passing through various roads before arriving at the ADRM office. The hawkers protested en route before submitting their memorandum.
Reportedly, the memorandum demanded that hawkers be permitted to conduct their business in the vacant space near the temporary parking lot. Additionally, it calls for the drainage of accumulated water at the station entrance and the repair of the road near the station for the convenience of passengers.
