Siliguri, 14th October: Siliguri Mayor Goutam Deb inaugurated the new building of Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC). During the inauguration, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Sonam Wangdi Bhutia, and other Mayor-in-Council and Councillors were present.
According to reports, with the increase in the number of employees and the growth of advanced technologies, the officers and employees were facing inconveniences while working in the first building of the Municipal Corporation. The previous board tried to solve the grievances and decided to construct a new building. Under this, the works for a ‘G plus One’ building were initiated. Subsequently, as the Trinamool Congress (TMC) held the position on the board, they took the initiative to construct a ‘G plus Four’ building. Later, the construction work commenced after the approval of the state government.
On Saturday, the Mayor inaugurated the new SMC building. Speaking in this regard, Mayor Goutam Deb stated that a few other works will commence in the new building after Durga Puja. He added that after the construction is complete, all the work will be shifted to the new building.
