Siliguri, 09th September: In a bid to provide affordable meals to the community, a new Maa Canteen was inaugurated in Gate Bazaar of Siliguri. The opening ceremony was graced by Siliguri Mayor Goutam Deb, who not only attended the inauguration but also partook in a meal at the canteen.
Maa Canteen, now open in Ward No. 33’s Gate Bazaar, offers a daily menu comprising eggs, rice, pulses, and vegetables, all priced at just Rs 5. This initiative aims to make nutritious and economical meals accessible to residents. Maa Canteens have already been established at various locations across the city, including NJP, Ward No. 18, and Ward No. 36.
Mayor Deb announced plans to launch another Maa Canteen in Junction next week and disclosed future plans for an outlet at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. To address concerns about food quality, the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Mayor’s Council, and Councilors personally dined at the Maa Canteen during the opening, ensuring the public’s confidence in the endeavor.
