Siliguri, 7th October: Siliguri Mayor Goutam Deb cautioned against obstructing the construction work of drains near Shaktigarh PWD More, stating interruption in development work will not be tolerated.
It has to be noted that, Siliguri’s Ashok Nagar locality under Ward No. 31 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation is in the headlines every year due to issues of waterlogging. Currently, the Municipal Corporation has taken the initiative for a permanent solution to the issue. In this regard, plans to drain out the water from Ashok Nagar to Mahananda River are under formulation.
As per reports, upon consultations with engineers, it was decided to release the water into Mahananda River through Shital Para located in SMC’s Ward No. 31. Later, due to some issues, the plan was canceled and it was decided to execute the drainage to Mahananda through Shaktigarh’s PWD More. However, the plan was objected to by some local businessmen.
On Saturday, the mayor visited the area to inaugurate the work. In this regard, the mayor stated that any interruption in developmental works would not be tolerated. Mayor Deb spoke to the businessmen and assured them that no one would be harmed by the work. In addition, the Mayor claimed that after the completion of work, within seven to eight months, Ashok Nagar’s water issues will be solved permanently.
