Mayor Gautam Deb lays foundation stone for second phase of water treatment plant in Fulbari

Fulbari, 21st March: In a step towards resolving the water crisis in greater Siliguri, Mayor Gautam Deb laid the foundation stone for the second phase of the water treatment plant in Fulbari under the ‘Amrut 2.0’ project.


The event was attended by Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) Chairman Pratul Chakraborty, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, MMIC Dulal Dutta, Leader of Opposition Amit Jain, along with engineers and councillors of the corporation.

According to reports, the mega purified drinking water project is being implemented at a cost of approximately ₹511 crore under the ‘Amrut 2.0’ scheme. The first phase of the project commenced in Gajoldoba a few months ago with an investment of ₹204 crore, and 42% of the pipeline work has already been completed. Water from the Teesta River in Gajoldoba will be transported to the Fulbari water treatment plant through an intake well and pipeline system.
Once purified, the water will be supplied to greater Siliguri.


On Friday, the foundation stone for the second phase was laid, which includes the construction of a water treatment plant at a cost of approximately ₹287.20 crore. The facility aims to provide filtered drinking water and alleviate the water scarcity in the region.
