Mayor Gautam Deb faces barrage of complaints during public outreach in Siliguri’s Ward No. 46

Siliguri, 13th January: Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb launched a public outreach drive ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections and on Tuesday visited Ward No. 46 along with party workers, in the absence of Trinamool Congress Councillor Dilip Barman.

During the interaction, residents placed a long list of grievances before the mayor, highlighting issues such as dilapidated roads, poor drainage, irregular water supply, and garbage accumulation at multiple locations. Despite the ward having a Trinamool councillor, the lack of visible development works left both residents and the mayor surprised.

Mayor Deb took note of the complaints and assured residents of prompt action. He stated that while significant work had been undertaken in Ward No. 46, the benefits had not reached people effectively due to improper implementation of plans.

Outlining future infrastructure plans, the mayor said the road from Champasari to Mohurganj would be widened into a two-lane stretch. He also announced plans for a railway overbridge near Mohurganj to connect the route directly with Darjeeling, creating an alternative Siliguri-Darjeeling corridor.

The outreach programme has further fuelled political speculation, with indications emerging that the Trinamool Congress may field Gautam Deb from the Siliguri Assembly seat in the forthcoming elections. As the political climate heats up, activity within Siliguri’s political landscape continues to intensify.
