Mayor distributes compensation cheques to fire-affected traders of Siliguri’s Bidhan Market

Siliguri, 01st October: Financial compensation cheques were distributed to traders affected by the fire incident at Bidhan Market on Tuesday, in line with the Chief Minister’s previous announcement.

The distribution took place at the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC), where traders received cheques from the state government.

As per reports, 9 traders were given ₹1 lakh each, while 14 others received ₹50,000. This followed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s announcement during an administrative meeting at Uttar Kanya on Sunday, where she also directed the SMC to begin shop reconstruction.

After the cheque distribution, Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb held a meeting with the traders, discussing the construction of some new shops before the upcoming Durga Puja. The mayor also stated that the compensation would be provided from the Mayor’s Relief Fund.
