Kharibari, 23rd January: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested Jayanta Das, also known as ‘Bangru’, in connection with a major drug trafficking operation. The arrest was made yesterday in Kharibari, where he is a resident.
The case dates back to August 10, 2024, when the NCB arrested Jitu Barman with 417 grams of heroin in Kharibari. Following his arrest, Barman was taken into custody for interrogation. However, initial questioning did not yield significant results.
Upon examining Barman’s mobile phone and social media chats, the NCB team discovered a lead pointing to Jayanta Das, identifying him as the mastermind behind the drug operation. Subsequently, the NCB took swift action and apprehended Das. On Thursday, he was presented in the Siliguri court, where the judge rejected his bail plea and remanded him into NCB custody for one day.
Sources indicate that Jayanta Das may have connections with an international drug trafficking syndicate. The NCB is continuing its investigation to uncover further details involved in the network.
