Kharibari, 22nd February: A massive fire broke out at a residence in the Prasadu Jote area adjacent to Panitanki in Kharibari in the early hours of Thursday.
As per reports, Manik Barman’s house was engulfed in an inferno at around 2 a.m. in the night. Earlier, upon hearing the noises made by the cattle, the owner came out and spotted the fire. Significantly, the locals first attempted to douse the fire; however, Rs 1 lakh in cash, four rooms of the house, and several documents were burnt to ashes. After being alerted, a fire engine reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
Meanwhile, Manik was injured while attempting to save a child from the house. Currently, he is undergoing treatment in Naxalbari Hospital. The incident led to an atmosphere of panic in the area. The cops of Panitanki Outpost have initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire.
