Siliguri, 02nd October: Sensation prevailed following a catastrophic fire that broke out in a flat in College Para located in Ward No. 17 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC). Fortunately, the flat was empty at the time of the incident.
As per reports, on Sunday night, the locals spotted the fire in a four-story apartment and informed the owner as well as the fire department. Upon receiving the news, the owner of that apartment rushed to the scene. Simultaneously, the fire department and Siliguri Police also arrived at the spot and doused the raging inferno. Various items in the flat were reduced to ashes; however, no news of casualty has been reported.
Preliminary assessment of the fire department suggested that the incident might have been caused by a lamp or an incense stick in the house. However, the actual reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained.
