Phansidewa, 13th May: A devastating fire broke out in Chathat Gram Panchayat of Phansidewa block, resulting in the complete destruction of four houses, while two others suffered partial damage. The preliminary investigation suggests that the fire originated during cooking. Local residents first noticed the flames emerging from one of the houses today, and within a short span of time, the fire quickly engulfed the surrounding houses.
The local informed the fire brigade and two fire tenders from Siliguri and Matigara rushed to the scene. The fire personnel swiftly extinguished the flames. Unfortunately, four houses were already gutted by the time the fire was brought under control, and two additional houses sustained partial damage.
Upon receiving the news, Phansidewa’s Block Development Officer (BDO), Sanju Guha Majumdar, arrived at the site to meet with the affected families. The block administration provided essential assistance in the form of food, clothing, and tarpaulins. Additionally, the BDO has notified higher authorities about the incident, requesting financial assistance for the affected families.
