Martyrs’ Day observed in different places in Darjeeling

Darjeeling, 27th July: Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) will celebrate Shahid Diwas (Martyr’s Day) on July 27 across the Darjeeling hills to pay respect to the people who laid down their lives for the demand for a separate Gorkhaland state.


Sukhia Pokhri – Nagari-Dhaje Samashti:

Gorkha Janamukti Morcha Nagari-Dhaje Samashti today paid homage to the martyrs of the Gorkhaland movement on the occasion of Shahid Diwas (Martyrs’ Day). Samashti Vice President Amir Gurung, Sanjay Giri, Secretary Kishor Chhetri, Mahesh Ojha, Nabin Subba of Yuva Morcha, Arvind Subba of the labour union, Yogen Pradhan of the sub-divisional committee, Ashwin Syangden, Samashti spokesperson Krishna P Thatal and others lit lamps in front of the Samashti office. Expressing commitment to fulfil the dream of the martyr for sure, the silence was also observed for peace of soul.


Mirik:

GJM Bimal Gurung faction of Mirik also paid tributes to the martyrs who lost their lives in the Gorkhaland movement. At the Martyrs’ altar in Krishna Nagar, Sub-Divisional Chairman Suman Rai, Mukul Ghimirey and other activists of Yuva Morcha, Nari Morcha and fraternal organizations paid heartfelt tributes to the martyrs.

Mirik-Changa

Martyrs’ Day was observed in Changa under Panighatta Gram Panchayat of Mirik sub-division in memory of the valiant heroes who were martyred in the Gorkhaland movement. On this occasion, activists of various parties and common people lit lamps at the martyrs’ altar in Changa and paid homage by offering flower garlands.

Panighatta:

Martyrs’ Day, which is being observed on July 27 like every year in memory of the martyrs who lost their lives during the Gorkhaland agitation, was also observed in Panighatta Tea Garden today. On this occasion, flowers were laid in memory of the martyrs.
