Rajganj, 25th January: In memory of Jagdish Chandra Roy and Gajan Roy, who martyred in the agitation while demanding a separate Kamtapuri state and language, Martyr’s Day was observed on behalf of the Kamtapuri Cultural Organization, on Saturday.
According to information received from the organizational sources, a ‘Rail Roko’ agitation was staged at the Altagram station in demand of a separate Kamtapuri state and language, on 25th January 1987. During the agitation, Jagdish Chandra Roy and Gajan Roy were shot to death. Since then, on behalf of the Organization, 25th January is observed as Martyr’s Day in their memory, every year.
