Rajganj, 25th January: In memory of Jagdish Chandra Roy and Gajan Roy, who were martyred in the agitation while demanding a separate Kamtapuri state and language, Martyrs’ Day was observed on behalf of the Sahudangi Shahid Bedi Committee, on Monday.
According to committee sources, a ‘Rail Roko’ agitation was staged at the Altagram station in demand of a separate Kamtapuri state and language, on 25th January 1987. During the agitation, Jagdish Chandra Roy and Gajan Roy were shot dead. Since then, on behalf of the Organization, 25th January is observed as Martyrs’ Day in their memory, every year.
Jalpaiguri district MP Jayanta Roy, Jalpaiguri district-in-council president Uttara Barman, committee secretary Ravi Roy, Madan Roy, Ajit Roy, and many others were present at the programme.
