Rajganj, 10th November: Sensation prevailed after the body of the terminal manager was recovered inside the Fulbari truck terminal, on Tuesday morning. The deceased has been identified as Abhijit Maiti (35).
It has been learned that 12 workers are employed in the Fulbari truck terminal in Rajganj. Abhijit Maiti used to work as a manager and used to live at his father-in-law’s house.
Recently, the workers of the terminal staged a sit-in protest demanding a pay rise. The workers said that after protesting, the employer promised to pay them a salary of 9 thousand rupees. However, they were given only 7 thousand rupees on Monday.
Agitated by this, no employee joined work on Monday night and the manager was alone inside the terminal. Later this morning, the manager was found lying unconscious inside the terminal. He was then rescued and rushed to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.
The terminal staff said that the manager must have committed suicide due to the pressure created by the owner. They demanded a proper investigation into the incident.
Susmita Maiti, the wife of the deceased, made the same allegation, and demanded justice.
The terminal staff and relatives of the deceased staged a road blockade along with the body. After the blockade lasted for an hour, the NJP police reached the spot and tackled the situation.
