Naxalbari, 25th November: A man was killed after being attacked by a wild elephant while attending nature’s call in the Damdama area of Hatighisa in Naxalbari. The deceased has been identified as Vijay Nag (44).
Reports suggest that Vijay Nag went to the Damdama division of Pahargoomiah Tea Estate on Monday morning to relieve himself when he was attacked by the elephant. The Bagdogra Forest Department personnel later recovered his body and sent it to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for an autopsy.
Following the tragic incident, Ranger Sonam Bhutia emphasized the need for public awareness and advised people to avoid entering the elephant corridor. The Forest Department has expressed concerns about the increasing danger to the public, as there are numerous elephants in the Bagdogra forest area.
