Siliguri, 28th November: A tragic incident came to light from the Jyoti Nagar area of Siliguri’s Ward No. 41 where a man set himself ablaze ahead of his younger brother’s wedding. The incident resulted in an atmosphere of mourning which otherwise would have been a moment of happiness in the family. The deceased has been identified as Santosh Gupta.
According to reports, there was an ambiance of celebration in the residence regarding the marriage of Santosh’s younger brother and the marriage procession was about to leave in a while. During this, the elder brother Santosh Gupta sprinkled petrol on his body and set himself on fire.
Subsequently, the family members rushed to the rescue and took Santosh to Siliguri District Hospital. Later, as his health conditions deteriorated, Santosh was referred to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH), where he breathed his last.
In this regard, the family claimed Santosh to be different and reserved and were unaware of his thoughts and actions. They added that they were astonished that Santosh took such an extreme step.
