Man sentenced to life imprisonment in wife’s murder case after 8 years in Siliguri

Siliguri, 26th August: Nirdosh Toppo, the prime accused in the murder case of his wife Usha Toppo, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Siliguri ACGM Second District and Sessions Court, today. A fine of Rs one lakh has also been imposed on him.


It is to be noted that in October 2013, a dispute broke out between Nirdosh Toppo (who was under the influence of alcohol) and his wife Usha Toppo, residents of the Hansqua Tea Garden area under Bagdogra police station. As the argument escalated, furious Nirdosh Toppo stabbed his wife to death with a knife.

Following this, Nirdosh Toppo’s brother lodged a complaint against him at Bagdogra police station. Based on that complaint, the police arrested the accused on October 08, 2013.


In this context, government lawyer Amitabh Mukherjee said that frequent disputes used to break out between the husband and wife. That night too, Nirdosh killed his wife when she tried to stop him from beating their daughter.
