Man sentenced to life imprisonment in neighbor’s murder case after 7 years in Siliguri

Siliguri, 29th September: Prabhat Singh, the prime accused in the murder case of his neighbor Dulal Singh, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Siliguri ACGM Fast Track Court, today. A fine of 10 thousand rupees has also been imposed on him.


It is noteworthy that on October 30, 2013, Prabhat Singh attacked his neighbor Dulal Singh and killed him with a sharp weapon in the Kharibari area. The next day, the deceased’s brother Bimal Singh had lodged a complaint at the Kharibari police station. Meanwhile, the accused was behind the bars for about 6 to 7 months after he himself surrendered at the court. Following this, he was released on bail.

At the same time, the trial of this murder case started in Siliguri ACGM Fast Track Court in 2015 and ended in 2021. Judge Sudhir Kumar of the Siliguri ACGM Fast Track Court convicted Prabhat Singh for the murder of Dulal Singh and sentenced him to life imprisonment, and also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 for eradicating clues to the murder.


In this context, Public Prosecutor Pijush Kanti Ghosh said that the statement of 14 people was needed to prove Prabhat Singh guilty. Thereafter, the court sentenced him to life imprisonment.
