Siliguri, 08th April: A shocking murder case has come to light from Shiv Mandir’s Haler Matha area under Matigara Police Station in Siliguri, where a man allegedly killed his wife and kept the body hidden inside the house for three days before informing the police.
According to police sources, the accused, Aritra Banerjee, called up authorities on Wednesday morning and confessed to killing his wife, Debolina Banerjee, stating that her body was lying inside their residence. He also informed that he was with their 11-year-old son.
Acting on the information, DCP Quazi Samsuddin Ahamed, along with Matigara Police Station IC Manojit Sarkar and a police team, reached the spot and recovered the woman’s body wrapped in a blanket from a fourth-floor flat.
The deceased, Debolina Banerjee, was a school teacher by profession, while the accused is reportedly a bank employee. The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.
Police suspect that the murder took place sometime after Sunday afternoon. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway, with efforts on to trace the absconding accused.
