Siliguri, 20th May: A person lost his life in a tragic road accident that occurred on Monday night around 11 p.m. near the Don Bosco More traffic point on Sevoke Road, under the jurisdiction of Bhaktinagar Police Station.
The deceased has been identified as Raju Lepcha. Originally from Kalimpong, Raju had been residing in a rented house in the Jhankar More area of Siliguri for the past two years. He was employed as a chef at a restaurant in the Sevoke More area.
According to sources, Raju was returning to Jhankar More from the check post along with his cousin, both riding separate motorcycles. While on the way, Raju came under the wheels of a lorry near Don Bosco More, resulting in his death on the spot.
Following the incident, tension gripped the area. Upon receiving information about the accident, personnel from Bhaktinagar Police Station and the Traffic Police promptly reached the scene. The police took Raju’s body into custody and sent it to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.
The driver and cleaner of the cargo truck involved in the accident were arrested. The police are currently investigating the entire case.
