Man killed in elephant attack in Naxalbari’s Kalabari area

Naxalbari, 24th May: A man lost his life in a tragic elephant attack late Friday night in the Kalabari area of Naxalbari, spreading grief among local residents. The deceased has been identified as Posh Bahadur Chhetri, a resident of Mirjangla in Naxalbari.


According to reports, two elephants entered the area from the Kalabari forest and attacked Chhetri, resulting in his death. Upon receiving the information, police personnel from Naxalbari and Panighata Outpost, along with forest department officials from Panighata, rushed to the spot. However, locals expressed anger over the delay in recovering the body, leading to a tense situation in the area.

Following assurances from the forest department, the body was recovered and sent to Naxalbari Hospital. On Saturday, it was forwarded to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.


Panighata Forest Ranger Samiran Raj stated that financial aid will be provided to the deceased’s family. Additionally, measures such as fencing, installation of lighting, and increased patrolling will be implemented in the area to prevent such incidents in the future.
