Man jumps into Teesta River after familial dispute in Fulbari, search operation initiated 4 days later

Fulbari, 19th June: A shocking update surfaced about the man who jumped into the Teesta River four days ago, leaving behind his bicycle and shoes. The individual identified as Rajesh Dey (52), alias Bapi, took a drastic step amidst a family dispute and jumped into the Teesta River in the Putimari area in Gajaldoba-Fulbari Teesta Canal the past Saturday around eleven o’clock.


According to reports, Rajesh Dey, a resident of Haripur in Fulbari-I Gram Panchayat near Siliguri, was engulfed in a family altercation that allegedly stemmed from an extramarital affair. Family sources revealed that Rajesh had an argument with his wife over the matter that night. Distraught, he departed from his home with his bicycle around 10:30 pm. Upon reaching the Putimari bridge, he left his bicycle and shoes before plunging into the canal.

Eyewitnesses were unable to identify Rajesh in the darkness of the night as he was swept away by the strong current of the water. The NJP police were promptly informed of the incident and Rajesh’s bicycle and shoes were recovered from the scene.


Following the broadcast of the incident, Rajesh’s family contacted the police, identifying the recovered items. Four days after the incident, the disaster management team initiated a search operation at the site while Rajesh remains missing.
