Man found dead in Siliguri after allegedly facing false rape accusation; family files complaint

Siliguri, 07th November: A man accused of rape, allegedly under false pretenses, was found dead just days after securing bail. The deceased, identified as Mridul Kanti Mandal, was found hanging in the Champasari area of Siliguri on Wednesday. Originally from Balurghat, Mridul had been living in Siliguri for around eight years, working as a driver and residing in a rented accommodation in Champasari.

According to the family, Mridul was falsely accused by a neighboring woman, who recently filed a rape complaint against him. They allege that the complaint lacked substantial evidence, a point reinforced by Mridul’s lawyer, Deep Saha, who stated that the complainant failed to provide evidence in court. Despite being released on bail, Mridul reportedly struggled with emotional distress and was deeply affected by the accusations.

Reportedly, on Wednesday, Mridul’s hanging body was found, and Pradhan Nagar police arrived at the scene to recover it. The family arrived in Siliguri from Balurghat on Thursday. An autopsy was conducted at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) the same day.

The family has since filed a complaint with the police, seeking justice and a thorough investigation.
