Siliguri, 25th September: In a tragic incident, a man drowned while attempting to cross the Mechi River in Naxalbari, causing a sensation in the area. The deceased has been identified as Sabinus Murmu, a resident of the Panitanki area in Kharibari.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon as Murmu was crossing the Mechi River while on his way to Nepal. Locals alerted authorities, and with the help of border forces, his body was recovered.
Upon receiving the news, police from Naxalbari police station arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and sent it to Naxalbari hospital.
The body will be sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) on Thursday for a post-mortem examination. Police are currently investigating the incident.
