Man detained after wife complains of vandalism in house over loss in gambling in Thangbhanga More railway line adjacent to Siliguri

Siliguri, 17th January: An unusual incident surfaced where a man allegedly vandalized his own house over frustration of losing cash in gambling. Sources claimed that gambling boards are set up every evening around Baribhasha’s Thengbhanga More railway line adjacent to Siliguri.


As per reports, on Tuesday, an individual identified as Shankar Roy lost a significant amount of money in gambling in the said area. Following this, the man returned home and allegedly destroyed several household items including a TV, doors, and windows. Witnessing the loss, Shankar’s wife protested, however, she was also allegedly assaulted.

Subsequently, Shankar’s wife Pinky Roy filed a written complaint at New Jalpaiguri (NJP) police station. Promptly, the police arrived at the spot, apprehended Shankar Roy, and transported him to the police station.


In this regard, the locals alleged that every evening, gambling boards worth lakhs are set up near the said railway line. They added that they were left distraught by the incident.
