Siliguri, 12th December: Three accused were arrested by Bhakti Nagar Police after allegedly attempting to sell a motorcycle that had been borrowed from an acquaintance. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Bhakti Nagar Police Station.
According to police sources, complainant Lalu Manjhi and the main accused, Bapi Mahali, are both residents of Metelli Tikot Tea Garden and grew up together. While Lalu later shifted to Siliguri for work, Bapi also moved to the city in search of employment and remained in contact with him.
On 08th December, Bapi Mahali borrowed Lalu Manjhi’s bike on the pretext of work. However, instead of returning it, he took the motorcycle along with two friends, identified as Rahul Das and Krishna Roy, and attempted to sell it elsewhere.
After several hours passed and the bike was not returned, Lalu Manjhi lodged a written complaint at Bhakti Nagar Police Station. Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and arrested all three accused, Bapi Mahali, Rahul Das, and Krishna Roy, from Chandmari area on 09th December.
Police sources revealed that Rahul is a resident of Purba Chayanpara, and Krishna is from Durganagar in Ward No. 40. During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed that their intention was to sell the motorcycle.
Based on their statements, police recovered the stolen bike from Eastern Bypass. Further investigation into the case is underway.
