Siliguri, 04th April: A man was arrested with a firearm and live ammunition by plainclothes police of Pradhan Nagar Police Station in Siliguri. The accused has been identified as MD Chottu alias Tahir, a resident of Ratan Lal Basti under Ward No. 01.
According to information, on late Friday night, the accused had reached a secluded area near Darjeeling More with plans related to illegal arms dealing. During patrolling, plainclothes police personnel spotted him and grew suspicious.
Upon searching him, a firearm and live cartridges were recovered from his possession, following which he was immediately arrested.
Sources revealed that the accused was allegedly on his way to deliver the firearm. He is reportedly a repeat offender.
The accused was produced before a Siliguri court on Saturday, and further investigation is underway.
