Siliguri, 10th December: In a significant breakthrough, the cops of NJP police station successfully apprehended an individual with brown sugar worth Rs 14 lakh from the Kawakhali area on Saturday night. The arrested accused has been identified as Abdul Razzaq, a resident of Fulbari.
As per police sources, the accused Abdul was headed towards Fulbari from Malda via Siliguri with the intoxicated substances. Acting on a tip-off, the NJP police conducted an operation on Saturday night and apprehended the accused from Kawakhali. During the search, the police recovered a packet of brown sugar concealed in black plastic from his possession.
The recovered brown sugar weighed 280 grams with an estimated market value of Rs 14 lakh. Following the apprehension, a case was registered against the accused under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act on charges of drug trafficking. On Sunday, the accused was produced before the Jalpaiguri Court for legal proceedings.
