Siliguri, 18th December: The police of the Ashighar Outpost apprehended the accused Suman Sarkar for allegedly provoking his wife, Suparna Sarkar, to commit suicide.
According to information gathered, on Sunday, the woman killed herself in the Niranjan Nagar area under Ward No. 36 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC). Upon receiving the information, the officials of the Ashighar Outpost arrived at the scene, recovered the woman’s body, and sent it to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for a post-mortem examination. In the meantime, the deceased’s family filed a written complaint against the husband upon learning of the tragedy.
Suparna’s family alleged that she was subjected to frequent domestic violence and abuse throughout her 10 years of marriage with the accused Suman Sarkar. In addition to physical abuse, the accused would mentally harass his wife which led her to resort to ending her life. Following this, the police arrested the accused husband and produced him before the Jalpaiguri Court on Monday. At present, the entire incident is under further police investigation.
