Man arrested in Siliguri for deceptive relationship and lethal attack on lover

Siliguri, 23rd September: Bhakti Nagar police have arrested a man for engaging in a deceptive physical relationship with a woman under the pretense of marriage and launching a lethal attack on her. The accused, identified as Subrata Dey (33), is a resident of Ashighar under Bhakti Nagar police station.


According to reports, a 32-year-old divorced woman from Rathkhola met Subrata Dey in 2020 through social media, and their relationship gradually blossomed into love. Over the next four years, Subrata allegedly engaged in physical relations with the woman by luring her with promises of marriage.

In September, the woman discovered that Subrata was already married, and upon confronting him, a dispute ensued. The woman reported that on September 11, Subrata invited her to a guest house in Nepali Basti under the guise of a surprise party. There, another dispute arose, during which Subrata allegedly struck the woman on the head with a beer bottle. She managed to escape and sought medical treatment. Subrata also threatened her not to disclose the incident to anyone.


On September 19, the woman filed a formal complaint at Bhakti Nagar police station, accusing Subrata of deception and assault. Following an investigation, the police arrested Subrata Dey from the Ashighar Pipeline area on Sunday night. He was presented in court on Monday, and legal proceedings are underway as the police continue to investigate the case.
