Man arrested in dowry murder case in Siliguri

Siliguri, 19th May: The accused husband in the murder of his wife for dowry has been apprehended by the police. The accused has been identified as MD Alam (27) a resident of Adarsh Nagar Colony under Ward No. 4 of Siliguri. The victim, Ayesha Khatoon, married MD Alam on August 15, 2021. It is alleged that a few months into the marriage, Ayesha’s husband and in-laws subjected her to physical and mental torture, demanding dowry. Despite giving birth to a child, the atrocities against Ayesha persisted.


On May 17, 2023, Ayesha’s husband and in-laws once again demanded a dowry of Rs 3 lakh. Ayesha objected, leading to a heated argument. Subsequently, Ayesha’s lifeless body was discovered hanging from a noose. Her in-laws rushed her to Siliguri District Hospital, but doctors pronounced her dead. The tragic incident prompted a strong outcry from Ayesha’s parents. Her father filed a written complaint at Siliguri Women’s Police Station. 

Acting swiftly, the police arrested the accused husband shortly after the complaint was lodged. The police have charged him with dowry harassment and the murder of his wife. Today, the accused husband was presented before the Siliguri court, where the police sought his remand. The investigation into the entire matter is ongoing.
