Kharibari, 19th November: Police have arrested Mukesh Kumar Roy, accused of murdering his brother-in-law, Shiv Charan Singh, four months after the incident in Maruti Bagan area of Chakkarmari, on the Bengal-Bihar border.
According to reports, a family dispute led Mukesh to attack Shiv Charan Singh with a sharp weapon on 20th July, killing him on the spot. Mukesh fled the scene after the murder.
About a year ago, Mukesh had faced allegations from his wife, Manju Roy, of assaulting her and their son. Manju later moved with her son to her parental home in Maruti Bagan. During this period, Mukesh returned to Kharibari, got into a quarrel and physical fight with his brother-in-law, which escalated into the fatal attack.
Police traced Mukesh to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh with the help of local authorities. He was brought to Kharibari police station on transit remand on Tuesday and sent to Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Wednesday. The police will interrogate him during his remand.
