Panitanki, 14th January: A man was arrested at the Indo-Nepal border in Panitanki for allegedly holding dual citizenship. The accused has been identified as Uttam Kumar Shrestha.
Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel intercepted Shrestha while he was attempting to enter Nepal from Sikkim, raising suspicion and prompting further questioning.
During the search, officials recovered a Nepalese citizenship card along with a voter identity card issued in Sikkim, confirming the allegation of dual citizenship.
Shrestha was later handed over to Kharibari police for further legal action and was produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Wednesday.
