Siliguri, 03rd May: Amid the tense situation between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack, the police of Matigara police station under Siliguri Metropolitan Police have arrested an Afghan-origin Indian citizen for attempting to enter an army camp in Siliguri without permission.
According to reports, the incident took place on Friday at the Indian Army camp located in Khaprail Khopalasi area of Matigara. The army security officials saw that a person was roaming around the camp for a long time. Later, when that person tried to enter the camp, he was stopped. When contradictions were found in his statements during interrogation, he was handed over to the cops of Matigara police station.
As per sources, the person had gone to ask for the money lent to an army personnel. The name of the arrested person is Asia Khan (28). He is a resident of Bijni area of Chirang district of Assam. He was living in a rented house at Medical More in Siliguri in connection with his job. The army suspects that he may have some foreign connection as his ancestors are from Afghanistan. Further, his suspicious movement around the army camp amid Indo-Pak tension is considered unusual.
Assam identity card, driving license, a motorcycle, two mobile phones and Rs 7,000 cash have been recovered from the arrested person. The police of Matigara police station presented the accused in Siliguri court on Saturday. The police is investigating the entire matter.
On this subject, Siliguri Metropolitan DCP Biswa Chand Thakur stated that a person has been arrested for entering the army camp without permission. The matter is being investigated.
