Siliguri, 19th August: An alarming incident unfolded when a man was arrested on charges of attempting to abduct an 8-year-old by luring her with a chocolate. The incident surfaced from near the gas warehouse of Darjeeling More located in the Ujanu, Shiv Nagar area under Ward No. 46 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation. The arrested accused has been identified as Kanai Biswas.
According to reports, the incident occurred at night when the child was out to buy some items. During this, the accused approached her, offering chocolate and attempting to lead her away to a deserted area under the pretext of taking her to her father. The girl managed to free herself from the man’s grip and ran back home, where she informed her family of the incident.
Local residents, upon hearing about the abduction attempt, quickly launched a search for the suspect and managed to capture him. The police arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the report and took Biswas into custody.
Meanwhile, the residents expressed frustration towards the police administration. They have raised concerns about the frequent gatherings of drug addicts behind the Police Commissionerate building and accused the police of inaction despite being aware of the situation.
On Monday, the accused was presented in court and the police are continuing their investigation into the case.
