Siliguri, 26th October: A man was arrested for allegedly setting his brother’s car on fire following a family dispute in Niranjan Nagar near Ashighar More in Siliguri.
The fire completely gutted one four-wheeler and damaged another vehicle parked nearby due to the intense heat and flames. The exterior of a multi-storey building was also damaged in the incident. Residents were alerted by loud noises and informed the fire brigade and Ashighar Police Outpost.
Firefighters rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control, preventing a potentially serious situation. No further details about injuries were reported.
During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage from the surrounding area and collected other evidence, which allegedly helped identify the accused, Raja Majumdar. According to police, he allegedly confessed to setting the vehicle on fire during questioning.
Raja Majumdar was arrested by Ashighar Police Outpost within hours of the incident and produced before a court in Jalpaiguri on Monday. Further investigation is underway.
