Kharibari, 22nd February: Suspicion of a fake identity document racket has resurfaced along the Indo-Nepal border in Kharibari after a man was apprehended by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) while entering India from Nepal.
According to sources, the accused, identified as Neeraj Kumar and reportedly a resident of Delhi, was detained during routine checking at the border. During questioning, inconsistencies in his statements raised suspicion, prompting officials to conduct a thorough search of his belongings.
Upon inspection, authorities recovered three Aadhaar cards bearing three different names, Paras Thakur, Vikramjit Sharma and Neeraj Kumar. However, the man identified himself as Neeraj Kumar.
In addition, a driving licence and two voter identity cards under separate names were also seized from his possession.
Following the seizure, the accused was handed over to Kharibari Police for further investigation. He was produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Sunday.
Police have initiated a detailed probe to determine whether the recovered documents were being used for criminal activities and to examine the possible existence of an organised fake ID racket operating in the border region.
