Siliguri, 25th December: The cops of Pradhan Nagar police station have apprehended an individual on charges of sexually assaulting a minor from Hyderabad. The arrested accused has been identified as Mohammad Ajit, a resident of Salbari in Siliguri.
According to the information acquired, the minor was returning home from the market one day when the accused allegedly halted her and got her phone number. Following this, the accused befriended the minor over the phone. Later, the accused allegedly summoned her to a secluded location and sexually assaulted her. Additionally, the minor was threatened not to disclose the matter.
However, five months after the occurrence, the minor’s health began to deteriorate, prompting her family to take her to the doctor for a checkup. During a checkup, the victim was discovered to be five months pregnant. Subsequently, the minor revealed the entire ordeal to her family.
Meanwhile, on December 3, the victim’s family filed a written complaint with the Pradhan Nagar police station. During the search, the Pradhan Nagar police successfully traced the accused followed by the swift arrest. The accused was later transported to Siliguri and brought before Siliguri Court on Monday. He was then placed on remand for five days. The police are currently conducting additional investigations.
