West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee jointly with Congress President Sonia Gandhi called for a meeting of Chief Ministers on various issues including the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) to be held amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The Chief Ministers from the opposition will likely meet this afternoon to discuss measures to pressure the government to postpone the exams in view of the COVID outbreak.
The West Bengal Chief Minister has twice written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking for the examinations to be suspended.
The Central, however, has resisted postponing JEE and NEET scheduled for September 2020. On Monday, the National Testing Agency released guidelines to be followed by the candidates during the exams.
The top agency made it mandatory for students to wear masks and gloves at all times and directed them to carry their own water bottles as well as sanitizers.
