Siliguri, 22nd November: With neighbouring nations facing political instability and the Red Fort blast in Delhi placing the entire country on high alert, a major security review meeting was convened in Siliguri to assess and strengthen protection of the strategic Siliguri Corridor, also known as the country’s “Chicken’s Neck”.
The high-level meeting was held at the office of a central intelligence agency in Siliguri on Saturday. Senior officers from CISF, BSF, SSB, ITBP, RPF, Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Military Police, Army Intelligence, state police intelligence branch, GRP, Central Road Authority, and Asian Highway Authority were present.
Sources said that instructions were issued to further tighten the security of the Siliguri Corridor and intensify surveillance in border areas. Agencies have also been directed to increase patrolling in sensitive zones and enhance inter-agency coordination.
Additionally, strict monitoring has been ordered along the Indo-Bangladesh and Indo-Nepal borders. Police and administrative authorities have also been asked to maintain detailed records of individuals arriving from outside the region.
