Siliguri, 08th April: Ahead of the Assembly elections, police carried out a major anti-drug operation. A joint team of SOG and NJP police raided near the Tinbatti More bus stand and arrested a peddler with 600 grams of brown sugar. The accused has been identified as Sajan Sarkar, a resident of Dakshin Dinajpur.
According to police sources, on Tuesday night, information was received about a suspicious person roaming near the Tinbatti More area. Acting on the tip-off, a plainclothes police team conducted a targeted operation. The accused was taken into custody and searched, during which 600 grams of brown sugar were recovered from his black bag. The market value of the seized drugs is reported to be several lakh rupees.
During preliminary questioning, the accused stated that he had come by bus to Tinbatti More to deliver the narcotics. The police intercepted him in time. A case has been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act, and he is scheduled to be presented in Jalpaiguri Court on Wednesday.
Following this major seizure during the election period, police have heightened vigilance and begun investigating the entire trafficking network. Authorities said they are also identifying other individuals involved in the operation.
