Siliguri, 09th June: The main gate of Ghogomali Junior Basic School and Ghogomali High School in Siliguri has reportedly turned into a dumping ground, sparking anger among local residents and concern for student health.
Locals allege that garbage-laden vehicles are now being parked inside the school premises, creating an unhygienic environment and disrupting daily school activities. Students are reportedly facing problems entering the premises, and outsiders are freely entering during school hours without any monitoring.
Despite attempts, residents claimed they were unable to contact the councillor about the issue. They have also accused the Siliguri Municipal Corporation of negligence in monitoring the situation.
Speaking on the matter, Leader of Opposition in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, Amit Jain, condemned the condition and said it is directly impacting students’ health. He questioned how the councillor permitted the use of school premises for waste dumping.
In response, MMIC Manik Dey stated that the councillor must investigate who parked the vehicles and when the garbage was dumped. He also noted that no formal complaint has been received from the public so far.
