Siliguri, 11th February: The Matigara police have arrested the main accused Kajal Paswan alias Raj in connection with the murder of 15-year-old 10th standard student Subhojit Modak, allegedly linked to a triangular love affair.
Reportedly, acting on a secret tip-off, police apprehended the 24-year-old accused from the NJP area late at night and recovered the belt allegedly used to strangle the deceased.
Subhojit, a resident of Simultala in Matigara, had been missing since last Saturday. Three days later, on Monday night, his body was recovered from the Sukna forest. Following the recovery, family members and local residents staged a road blockade demanding strict punishment for those involved.
Earlier, a 15-year-old minor was detained for questioning, and based on information provided, police located the body. The main accused had been absconding since the incident. He was produced before the Siliguri court on Wednesday, and police have sought remand for further interrogation.
According to police sources, questioning of the accused is expected to reveal the complete sequence of events and whether others were involved. The investigation is ongoing.
