Mahakal Temple to be built in Matigara, Mayor Gautam Deb inspects proposed site

Siliguri, 04th December: A Mahakal Temple will be constructed in Matigara near Siliguri, following an announcement made earlier by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during her North Bengal visit.

On Thursday, Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb visited the identified site to inspect the land earmarked for the project. The inspection was also attended by Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, the Borough Chairman, the Municipal Commissioner and other senior officials.

It may be noted that in October, during the Chief Minister’s visit to North Bengal, a meeting was held at Uttar Kanya after which it was officially announced that the Mahakal Temple would be constructed on approximately 14.41 acres of land in Matigara.

The project will be undertaken under the supervision of the West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited.

Speaking to the media after the inspection, Mayor Gautam Deb said that the land survey has already been completed and land-clearing work has also begun. He assured that construction of the temple will commence soon.
