Alipurduar, 20th February: Preparations are in full swing for the upcoming Maha Shivratri celebrations at Jayanti in Dooars. The Bhutan administration and Alipurduar district administration are taking several initiatives to facilitate the event.
Maha Shivratri, a significant Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Shiva, attracts thousands of devotees every year to Jayanti Mahakal Dham. Devotees from different parts of India and abroad visit the temple to observe fasts, offer prayers, and seek Lord Shiva’s blessings. Sadhus and saints have already started arriving at the dham, and fairs have also commenced in the area.
Jayanti Mahakal Dham is located in the mountains of Bhutan, a few kilometers from the Buxa Tiger Reserve in Alipurduar district. To ensure the convenience of devotees, the Alipurduar District Council is constructing a four-kilometer-long temporary road from the Jayanti River to Mahakal temple. This year, two separate roads are being built to ease movement.
In an effort to maintain environmental balance, the use of plastic, DJs, and sound boxes has been strictly prohibited. Additionally, dustbins have been placed at various locations along the route to prevent littering, and the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department has made arrangements for drinking water for the devotees.
With Maha Shivratri just a few days away, authorities are working to ensure a smooth and organized celebration for all visitors.
